On Sunday, February 2, begins the 45nd edition of the historical Carnival of Pieve di Cento, a very popular event that involves both children and grown-ups in a joyful celebration that “turns the everyday life upside down”. The town of Pieve di Cento celebrates Carnival according its own tradition. The event takes place along three Sundays (2, 9 and 16 February 2020) and features a big parade of Carnival floats, followed by marching bands, folkloristic groups, dancers and entertainers from all over Italy. The floats are created by almost 300 passionate people, belonging to different “Carnival Societies”. During the parade these colored “vessels” are liven up by music, colored confettis and throwing of sweets and candies. Life of the party in this Carnival is “Berba-spein”, the local stock character whose origin dates back to the earliest Carnivals in the mid 19th century. In case of bad weather the event will be postponed to Sunday March 1.
