Cantico dei Cantici is a creation by Virgilio Sieni, one of the leading names of the European choreographic scene, and director of the Venice Dance Biennale from 2013 to 2016. The piece is inspired by Solomon’s Canticle, the most sublime of the Bible’s canticles, which contains Mesopotamian poems from the 4th century B.C.. An idyllic place, a plain of golden leaves made by artisans from Oltrarno, a historical quarter of Florence, holds the action of six dancers, accompanied by live original music by Daniele Roccato’s double-bass. Their bodies cross the glowing light that moves between night and dusk. The narrative is articulated in eight moments: pastoral idylls, fragments about love expressed by vicinity, closeness and tactility. Virgilio Sieni and his dancers created a performance of pure beauty, an ode to love and to the perfect harmony between bodies.
