The Historical Carnival is not a simple floats parade, but a theatrical event that involved the whole city since 15 February 1874. The heart of the Carnival is the "Spéll", Italianized in" Spillo". In the ancient vocabulary of the Bolognese dialect, written by Carolina Coronedi Berti, it is defined as "transfiguring, making effigy and figure change. It is the secret of the parade, which turists and turns disguised up in Piazza del Popolo where the Collegiate church and other buildings create an urban setting while, next to the Town Hall, the public grandstand is set up, in front of which the float is transformed in a theatre where the allegorical show is staged. Everything takes place with actors, realized figures and a soundtrack. Especially with the mechanical movements of the float itself. It is the long-awaited unveiling of great craftsmanship, ranging from mechanics to electronics, from acting to painting, from sculpture to music, up literature.
