2 days / 1 night

Meet at Madonna dell’Acero at the foothills of Corno alle Scale: our trek will start here. We will climb up along the path bypassing the spectacular Dardagna waterfalls with their seven drops and along the ridge towards the Pratignano lake: a lovely route from the wild Val Dardagna to the Monti della Riva ridge, the last German defensive line in northern Italy during the Second World War. The itinerary is a very scenic one and is located between the provinces of Bologna and Modena. As we climb we will see the Val Dardagna and Val di Ospitale below us and reach the wide basin of the Pratignano lake where we will spend the night. We will find everything we need to set up camp, as well as food, beverages and our luggage transferred by a courier, who will support us. We will prepare everything ourselves, including the much-deserved dinner, which we will watch cooking on the fire in the silent mountains. The starry skies up high will keep us company until sunrise and brighten up our dreams.

After breakfast, we will set off for the Scaffaiolo lake along the ridge path as far as the large pastures up high, dominated by blueberry bushes. Once at Monte Spigolino with its amazing views stretching as far as the Tyrrhenian Sea on clear days, we will have reached the main Apennine ridge. A ridge trail will take us to lake Scaffaiolo and the adjacent Duca degli Abruzzi lodge where we will stop for lunch. We will savour typical mountain dishes with polenta and tagliatelle and relax. The downward trail will take us to lake Cavone and finally to Madonna dell’Acero, where our hike will end. Before bidding farewell, we can visit the Sanctuary with its rich history, characterised by peculiar mountain architecture.
