A monument, designed by the students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and depicting a whale of 9 meters found in Val di Zena.
In 1965, in the village of Gorgognano, a farmer who was working in a field found the remains of a Balaenoptera Aucutorostrata, dating back to the Pliocene, between 2 and 5 million years ago.
The prehistoric cetacean probably had gone to beach himself on the shore of what was then the intra Basin Bologna. The nearly complete fossil remains are kept at the “Giovanni Capellini” Geological Museum, in Bologna.
