Carnival in and around Bologna

MAP

Carnival is an age-old tradition in the Bologna area: the Historical Carnival of San Giovanni in Persiceto is the most ancient and well-known, with its floats, masks and colours making it one of the most important in Emilia-Romagna. The Bologna plain also boasts other carnival traditions that have existed for decades, from San Pietro in Casale and Pieve di Cento, to Imola, which preserves its motoring tradition with its environmentally-friendly “fantasy” vehicles, or fantaveicoli. And last but not least, the Apennines, with various places and valleys keeping traditions alive.
