For the first time in Italy, from 4 April to 5 May 2016, Tolle Hefte. Libri folli e bellissimi, a retrospective dedicated to the project of Armin Abmeier.
In 1991 Armin Abmeier, began a line of books completely unique to its genre. Die Tollen Hefte, small books “crazy and beautiful.” It is a line that continues to bring together unpublished and long forgotten texts, with illustrations from the most interesting and innovative German and international authors: Anke Feuchtenberger, Atak, Volker Pfüller, Henning Wagenbreth, Axel Sceffler, Blexbolex, Kathrin Stangl, Wolf Erlbruch, Rotraut Susanne Berner, Kitty Kahane, Christoph Feist, Moritz Götze, Sophie Dutertre and many other.
Tolle Hefte. Libri folli e bellissimi is a retrospective that will highlight how the genius of Abmeier, with a project for adults (still continuing, curated by Rotraut Susanne Berner) knew how to create a unique space inside German illustration for three generations of authors, and was able to influence contemporary children’s illustration in a very strong way.
The energy of the project and its ability to influence the imaginary in Germany has given testimony by three young authors included in the exhibition: Paula Bulling, Riikka Laakso, Paul Paetzel, Christina Röckl, who has been commissioned to create new images for a hypothetical Tolle Heft, working on an unpublished text by Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi (1746-1827), swiss-german educator.

Curated by Hamelin Associazione Culturale. Initiative organized by Goethe-Institut. In collaboration with Orecchio Acerbo, Transbook Children’s Literature on the Move. On the occasion of LOOK! Germany at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2016.
