The Réserve installation, created by Christian Boltanski within the special project Anime. Di luogo in luogo is inspired by the concept of the transience of human existence and the reconstruction of everyday life traces. It is visible in the unusual space of the former powder bunker of the Giardino Lunetta Gamberini. The military construction of nineteenth-century origin, before being closed for safety reasons, had become a makeshift shelter for homeless strangers, perhaps migrants, still unable to understand the meaning of the word hospitality. Chosen for its emblematic value, the bunker becomes an ideal space for the artist to evoke the bodies of mute presence. The Réserve installation shows to the viewer a quiet multitude consisting of 500 kilograms of clothes on the floor and entirely covered by isothermal blankets in gold color. A deposit of objects that show the absence of the subject they belonged to, after a process of dematerialization and loss of the body. As the title of the work suggests, the past becomes a forgotten reserve from which to draw for the reconstruction of individual subjectivity.
