Since 1988 the Porretta Soul Festival, Tribute To Otis Redding has become the most famous European appointment fully dedicated to soul music and rhythm & blues, with a particular attention to Memphis Sound, the music school of Otis Redding. The festival was born on December 10th, 1987 on the initiative of Graziano Uliani, who is still the director of the festival. Keen of soul music, he participated in the celebrations for Otis Redding’s death anniversary, in Macon - Georgia, and decided to organize a festival in honour of this great musician. In the last 28 editions, the Porretta Soul Festival hosted the most famous artists of soul music, most of them coming in Europe for the first time on the occasion. Others were discovered in isolated small towns in the deep south of the States, and then presented to the public and to the international press, during the music event referred to as the “miracle” of Porretta.
