The 30th edition of Porretta Soul Festival - Tribute to Otis Reddingis on stage July 20th to 23rd, 2017 at the Rufus Thomas Park in PorrettaTerme, in the Apennine Mountains between Bologna and Pistoia.
Since 1988 the Porretta Soul Festival, a Tribute to Otis Redding has become the most prestigious European event entirely dedicated to rhythm & blues and soul music and particularly to Memphis Sound, the great Otis Redding’s school of music. Over the past 30 years the greatest names in soul have come to Porretta, many of them on their first trip to Europe as guests of the Festival; others, now authentic legends, were discovered in the deep southern “backwaters” of the U.S.A. and introduced to the international public and press who spoke of the “miracle” of Porretta as the musical event of the year. Rufus Thomas, Sam Moore (from Sam & Dave) , Booker T. & The MGs, The Memphis Horns, The Muscle Shoals All Star Band, Denise LaSalle, Percy Sledge, Solomon Burke, The Neville Brothers, Chaka Khan, Irma Thomas, Mavis Staples, Millie Jackson, The Bar Kays, Ann Peebles, Bobby Rush, Latimore, Otis Clay, Isaac Hayes, Wilson Pickett, Lavern Baker, James Carr, Eddie Hinton,Les McCann, Dan Penn, Billy Preston: these are just a few of the names which have made Sweet Soul Music, Porretta Soul Festival a point of reference for music lovers throughout Europe. This event is organized in perfect synch with the calendar of other important black music events. Porrettahas worked its way into the official history and biography of soul’s greatestlegends.
