Music from the trees

Bartholomäus Traubeck
the German dj who plays the wood
for the first time in Emilia-Romagna

Opificio Golinelli
5 December 2015

For the first time in Emilia-Romagna, the German artist Bartholomäus Traubeck will present his album Years and the seven tracks of his wooden discs, in a music-performance dj set at Opificio Golinelli - Bologna (via Paolo Nanni Costa 14), centre for knowledge and science of the Fondazione Golinelli.
Spruce, Ash, Oak, Maple, Alder, Walnut, Beech, each tree has its own shape, its sign on the disc, its years. Bartholomäus Traubeck has used a miniature camera and a LED light to read the year-rings texture, their distance, the thickness, and the veining. Then a software has transformed these data into piano music.
Years collects sounds from the seven trees, catching also the age and the growth process of the rings.
In the concert-performance on Saturday, December 5th at 6.45pm, the 28-years-old artist from Munich will also explain the genesis of his work.
The dj performance takes place within the celebration of the National Tree Day. On the same day, from 5pm to 6.30pm at Opificio, there will be also a workshop for kids from 6 to 13, to make them know the tree’s history and how to trim the Christmas trees.
