25 October 2014 - 11 January 2015

On the occasion of the 450th Anniversary of the death of Michelangelo, the National Picture Gallery of Bologna exhibits to the public 12 engravings by Cherubino Alberti (Borgo Sansepolcro 1553 - Rome 1615) derived from works of the artist, in particular from the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel, selected from the collection of the Prints and Drawings Section.

The works are located into the mannerist section of the National Picture Gallery, and refer to some study drawings made by Cherubino and inspired by the masterpiece of Michelangelo, preserved in different Italian collections, such as the Department of Prints and Drawings of Uffizi (known as GDSU), the National Institute for the Graphic Design of Rome and the Oliveriana Library of Pesaro.

The exhibition, curated by Elena Rossoni and Chiara Cassinelli, is promoted by the National Picture Gallery Department of Printings and Drawings together with the Santa Cecilia Society – Friends of the National Picture Gallery of Bologna, and is part of the exhibition by turns of the graphic heritage of the collections, within the framework of the series called Stampe in collezione (prints of the collection).
