The largest anthological exhibition dedicated to the French artist ever organized in Italy. At MAMbo - Museo d'Arte Moderna di Bologna, from June 26th to November 12th, 2017
With 25 works among installations and videos, also including the works Volverand Animitas (blanc) on show in Europe for the first time, the exhibition retraces Boltanski’s poetics, from the mid Eighties until the most recent years, and unfolds according to some specific topics that have always crossed his work: disappearance, the dialectic relation between life and death, the frailty of memory and recollections, the fight against the inevitability of oblivion, the inherent tragic sense of history. The imposing Chimney Hall, heart of the museum and of entire exhibition trail, will be haunted by a diffused maze-like installation entitled Regards: black and white blurred images of anonymous faces printed on large-sized see-through fabric cloths. These pictures, coming directly from the personal photo archives of the artist will act as ghostly disturbing presences and invite visitors to let themselves go with the flow of time and memory.
The exhibition at MAMbo museum is the core of a special cultural project dedicated to Christian Boltanski, one the most important living artists at international level. The French artist is the protagonist of a rich programme of events that will be featuring Boltanski's multi-faceted work, from June to November, in several city locations.
The project Anime. Di luogo in luogo is curated by Danilo Eccher, and promoted by the Municipality of Bologna (namely through its Department for Culture and Relations with the University and the Istituzione Bologna Musei) together with Emilia-Romagna Teatro Fondazione, in conjunction with the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Association of the relatives of the Ustica disaster victims.
