Pure jazz and contemporary music, from the electronic to the hip-hop. An unforgettable autumn jazz event, where the history of the great jazz goes with the most innovative music trends. For 25 days - from October 26 to November 19 - Bologna Jazz Festival 2017 will be featuring exclusive concerts with contemporary music icons and all-stars bands. Masterclasses and meetings with the artists are also in the programme. BJF 2017 involves different locations, from the main Bologna theatres (Teatro Auditorium Manzoni, Teatro Duse, Unipol Auditorium, Teatro Il Celebrazioni), to manifold other venues in Bologna as well as in Modena and Ferrara area.
Among the artists of this edition: the sextet conducted by Chick Corea and Steve Gadd, the 4 by Monk by 4 (i.e. Kenny Barron, Dado Moroni, Danny Grissett and Cyrus Chestnut), Lee Konitz, who is going to celebrate his 90th birthday. Other great artists of music improvisation will give themselves a challenge with the most inventive contemporary styles, like Enrico Rava and Giovanni Guidi who will play with the electronic music guru Matthew Herbert, or the new band of Steve Lehman that is a hymn to the interaction between different languages (jazz, hip hop, electronic music). In addition, Barry Harris in trio, Ralph Towner solo, the all stars Smalls Live will bring their classical touch to the festival, while Paolo Fresu and his Devil Quartet, Uri Caine solo, Tim Berne with his Snakeoil, Miguel Zenón, and USA all stars bands as BassDrumBone and Claudia Quintet will be a bridge towards modern and sophisticated sounds. Further emotions will be assured by the jazz and rock influences of Brian Auger and Yellowjackets.
