ANTIQUE TERRACOTTA STATUETTES OF BOLOGNA CRIBS
FROM THE ART AND HISTORY COLLECTIONS OF FONDAZIONE CARISBO

Casa Saraceni
18 December 2015 - 10 January 2016

For the first time an exhibition which features the rich collection of more than seventy crib statuettes made of polychrome terracotta, coming from the antique market and bought by Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio in Bologna in 2007.

The exhibit "Dalle Collezioni d’Arte e di Storia della Fondazione Carisbo: antiche statuette in terracotta di presepi bolognesi" (From the art and history collections of Fondazione Carisbo: antique terracotta statuettes of Bologna cribs) is housed at Casa Saraceni from December 18th to Janaury 10th (inauguration at 5pm). Admission is free.

The statuettes date back to the second half of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th. They belonged to the Bologna families Baiesi and Zacchia Rondinini and well represent the figurative culture and fantasy of some ancient Bolognese artists in celebrating Christmas.
Among them: Filippo Scandellari, Domenico Piò, Clarice Vasini and others, all prepared at the Accademia Clementina and at Accademia di Belle Arti, where Giacomo De Maria – the first Bolognese sculptor to attend Antonio Canova’s atelier in Rome, was particularly active too.
