Two days spent discovering the remnants of the Second World War; visits to trenches and museums.
Arrival in the Bologna Apennines. In the afternoon, 4-hour trekking itinerary along the Gothic Line, a defensive line built by the German army all along the Apennines dorsal in order to counter the Anglo-American invasion. Machine gun, mortar and sniper positions, together with trenches, vantage points and shelters have been turned into an equipped itinerary across history-laden places, where your imagination can try to picture the conditions in which the troops lived those last months of the war.
In the morning, tour of Museo Storico di Montese, testifying to the history and development of human settlements in the area, from the early archaeological evidence to the 2nd post war. The museum is located in Rocca di Montese, a superbly preserved fortress dating back to 1200; at 841 meters of height, it overlooks the Panaro valley with its double wall and the XIV century crenelated tower.
