The Galleria de' Foscherari opened at the beginning of the 1960s, at a time when literary and artistic expressions that came out of a reassessment of historical avant-garde movements were already established.

It is thus in this context of the establishment of artistic neo-avant-gardism that the Gallery lay the groundwork for its own cultural identity by launching an intense program of exhibitions along two closely connected guiding principles. On one side, the re-presentation of the "tradition of the new", that is, a literal reassessment of historical avant-garde movements in their critically consolidated tradition. From the first perspective, we remember the exhibitions dedicated to German Expressionism, presented by an historian of the avant-garde, Mario De Micheli, and exhibitions by Klee, Ernst, Grosz, Sutherland, Vasarély, Calder and Nicholson. While the other guiding principle saw events dedicated to Manzoni, Christo, Plessi, Gnoli, Tancredi, Novelli, Twombly, Ceroli, Cavaliere and Tilson, to name just some important ones...
