Parco Talon takes its name from this Villa. The Sampieri family arrived in Bologna in 1300. The family was composed of merchants that, after a few time, became very wealthy. Some of them became doctors or senators, and gained the title of marquess.
In the 19th century they ordered the building of this magnificent Villa. When marquess Francesco Sampieri died, his daughter Carolina Sampieri married a member of the Talon family. During this period Villa Sampieri became an important cultural center. Famous musicians such as Donizzetti and Rossini directed many concerts there. When Stendhal came to Bologna, took inspiration from the Villa.
The new Villa was rebuilt in order not to contrast with the surrounding park. They furnished the large drawing room with many plants. During the second world war, this beautiful building became a German headquarter, therefore it has been bombed very often. In 1945 a bomb hit the Villa and destroyed the drawing room.
