Teatro Comunale di Bologna - Season 2013
A very special year for the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
2013 is the year of 3 different important anniversaries and the prestigious Bologna Music Foundation of Teatro Comunale could not miss to celebrate them in its new season.
First of all a special homage to Giuseppe Verdi in the 200th anniversary of his birth: Robert Wilson, one of the most famous theatre director in the world, will sign the direction, scenery, choreography and lights of Verdi's Macbeth (conductor Roberto Abbado), opening the Opera Season, on February 5th 2013.
Another special celebration for Bologna is the 250th anniversary of Teatro Comunale in Largo Respighi. First example of Opera Theatre, the Comunale of Bologna was built following Antonio Galli Bibiena's project and inaugurated on May 14th, 1763 with Cristoph Willibald Gluck's "Il trionfo di Clelia" (The triumph of Clelia).
Just on that anniversary, on May 14th 2013, Giuseppe Sigismondi De Risio will conduct a new critical edition of this opera; direction and the scenery by Nigel Lowery.
Finally, 2013 celebrates the bicentenary of Richard Wagner's birth, another important anniversary for Bologna that granted the honorary citizenship to the German composer in 1872.
In March 2013 the season will present Wagner's three-act romantic opera Der fliegende Holländer conducted by Stefan Anton Reck and directed by Yannis Kokkos.
2013 season of Teatro Comunale also includes other important operas (such as Vincenzo Bellini's Norma with the participation of Mariella Devia), many ballets and the traditional symphonic concerts at Teatro Manzoni which will open on January 12th with a multimedia event. The first concert is scheduled on January 17th with musics by Schoenberg, Wagner and Bartók, within The Schoenberg Experience project.
