In order to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Giuseppe Barilli's birth, also known under his pseudonym Quirico Filopanti, the city of Bologna, Budrio, his birthplace, as well as other localities in the Province of Bologna dedicate  a rich programme of events to the 19th century Italian mathematician, astonomer  and politician.

Documentary exhibitions, conferences, performances and astronomic visits and observations will take place during the whole 2012 in different locations of Bologna and the province.

Filopanti is famous for the invention of time zones, idea that he developed in his work Miranda! in 1858.
