opening on January 14th with Wagner's Parsifal directed by Castellucci
Fondazione Teatro Comunale di Bologna opens the Opera and Ballet Season 2014 on Tuesday, January 14 paying homage to Richard Wagner, on the anniversary of the first Italian performance of Parsifal (Bologna, January 1st, 1914). The opera has Romeo Castellucci's innovative, extraordinary and visionary direction.
Opera and Ballet Season 2014 presents 10 productions (8 Operas + 2 Ballets) and the musical Ragtime co-produced with Bologna Bernstein School of Musical Theater.
The programme includes many operas which have not been performed in Bologna for a long time, such as Parsifal (last performed in1980), Evgenij Onegin in April (last performed in1991) or Guillaume Tell in October (performed only once in 1957). In December Dmitrij Šostakovič's Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk District, - performed at Teatro Comunale in 1968 with the title Caterina Ismailova, will be an absolute debut.
The programme also includes Giacomo Puccini's Tosca directed by Daniele Abbado with the setting-up of Teatro Regio di Torino in February-March, and in June Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Thus Do They All, or The School for Lovers will be conducted by Michele Mariotti and directed by Mario Martone. For the contemporary musical theatre: – qui non c’è perché – by Andrea Molino in April and Cassandra by Michel Jarrell in October-November, based on the book of the same name by the German writer Christa Wolf.
As for the Ballet, 2014 Season proposes the Moscow Kremlin Ballett Swan Lake in May, and the Compagnia Aterballetto workwithinwork and Les Noces in November.
